Why is a Solar Water Heating System Worth Investing In?
Let’s figure out the Payback Period
To arrive at a simple payback period figure for a solar water heater install project, you want to consider the cost (after all incentives) and the energy savings.
This is simply the number that indicates (often in years) how long it will take to “pay back” the cost of your system installation, with the “pay back” being the energy reduction.

So, for example, if the net system cost is $2,242 and you saved $38.21 /month, then the payback period would be 4.9 years. If you chart the payback period on a time line after your installation date, then the date when the payback period is over, is when you have recouped the cost of the system and are now enjoying free energy.
